Does depression go away or is it with me forever?

If I take medicine, does it go away? Like, if I take antidepressants for long enough, does it go away & I can stop taking them? Because I know that if you are bipolar you have it for life, but can take medicine to keeps your moods normal. So is that the same with depression but with antidepressants? Don't be rude. I'm only 12.
