Dog "stealing" rope from my back pocket?

He believes the rope is his territory/toy and he wanted to play and it worked.. If you are not willing to play it will be less confusing to put it out of his reach. If you want to play that way direct him to do that reward his play and to also leave it when told. You have to teach him "Leave it."
